Try Sorting Uncle Goose Blocks into Animal Classifications!
So you have a set of ABC blocks and see animals on each side. That's because it's great for kids to learn the names of animals. Plus, kids LOVE playing with the critters!
But one learning activity that often gets neglected is sorting by animal classifications. How many animals are reptiles? How many mammals are there? How many birds are there? And can you find the sole amphibian?
Your alphabet blocks are hiding a world of discovery. It's an entire menagerie of classification fun!
Let's start with MAMMALS. Warm-blooded and often furry, most of the blocks in your set will feature mammals. You can pick up a bear, elephant, or—ooh, a whale!—bam! That's a mammal, baby! And remember, a whale doesn't take kindly to being mistaken for fish.
Speaking of FISH, you won't find any in our ABC sets. We put them in their own separate block set—because if fish try to cuddle with the bear, there's gonna be trouble! Instead, you can focus on fish with our Ocean Blocks.
And what's this? AMPHIBIANS?! That's right, these indecisive creatures can't pick a side. Water? Land? BOTH! Give them a round of applause for their adaptability! Can you find the sole amphibian in your ABC block set? There's only one, so make it count!
Next up: REPTILES! Cold-blooded and scaly, you'll find two reptiles in our ABC sets! Can you find the alligator and the turtle? Sorting these two teaches kids about evolution and habitats. If you want to study extinct reptiles, check out our popular Dinosaur Blocks.
But wait: are we missing INVERTEBRATES? We sure are! You won't find any invertebrates in our alphabet sets. You can find these critters on other sets. Uncle Goose Bug Blocks are chock-full of invertebrates. And our Ocean Blocks have two. Can you find them?
And finally, what about AVES, otherwise known as birds? See if you can find five in our ABC Block sets. We also have a special set that features our feathered friends — Uncle Goose Bird Blocks let your imagination take flight!
Children can get a fun, hands-on intro to biology and taxonomy by sorting blocks into classifications. Turn it into a game show—who can find the most mammals? Who can spot that one sneaky amphibian? Who will get to make a roaring noise when they see the lion?
Let the classification chaos begin! It's science disguised as fun, and fun is the best kind of learning!
